Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino insists Hugo Lloris will keep the Tottenham captaincy and reiterated his support for the French World Cup victor despite being convicted of drink driving.

"He is the first to regret about everything and all that happened is not good, he doesn't feel great", Pochettino said.

Dele Alli and Hugo Lloris will miss the match through injury after Alli picked up a knock while playing for England and Lloris sustained a thigh injury before Spurs' loss to Watford just under a fortnight ago.

"Everyone can make a mistake, he made a mistake and he is suffering".

The French stopper has endured a hard week after being found guilty of drink driving, with reports suggesting he could be stripped of the club captaincy. "He told me "boss it's a massive lesson for me, I made a mistake and need to pay" and now he's accepted (it) like a man that he is".

"He's punishing himself. But of course we're not God, that we can judge people".

Lloris will remain Tottenham Hotspur's captain when he returns from injury despite being convicted of drink driving, manager Mauricio Pochettino said on Thursday.

The English midfielder was in action for his country in the 2-1 home defeat to Spain in the UEFA Nations League, before pulling out of the subsequent friendly fixture against Switzerland with a hamstring concern.

"We are disappointed because we're going to miss him for this game and possibly Inter Milan in the Champions League, but it is not a big issue". "Hopefully it will be OK and he will be available again soon like Dele Alli".

Spurs trail Premier League leaders Liverpool by three points but could move top for a few hours at least with victory at Wembley.
