He was just 28 years old.

Alan Jackson's son-in-law, Ben Selecman, 28, died on September 12 after suffering "severe injuries during a boating accident", according to the Nashville District Attorney's Office, where Ben was an assistant DA.

District Attorney Glenn Fuynk paid tribute to the young man in a statement on Thursday.

Selecman and his wife lived in Nashville, where he had been appointed an assistant district attorney for the 20th Judicial District of Tennessee in April of lat year. He was married to Jackson's oldest daughter, Mattie.

Samuel Benton "Ben" Selecman, 28, died in West Palm Beach, Florida on Wednesday, Sept. 12, after sustaining traumatic head injuries in a fall off a boat dock, according to The Tennessean.

Mattie and Ben had recently tied the knot, making his tragic death even more heartbreaking. Our prayers are with Ben's family.

At the time, Mattie wrote lovingly about the pair's meeting, period of dating, proposal, and wedding.

The wedding was chronicled by Southern Bride, with Mattie telling the outlet: "Ben will tell you we first met at a mutual friend's wedding, but I just remember dancing with a cute guy and never thinking about him after".

"He asked me out and I said no, but he didn't give up". Heartbreakingly, their "fairy tale" wedding is now featured as the cover story of the summer-fall issue of Southern Bride. They shared a "surprise" first dance - a two-step swing dance - to her father's first radio single, "Blue Blooded Woman".

"Three months later, he called", she said.

Over on Alan Jackson's website, a statement notes that both the Jackson and Selecman families are asking for prayers during this hard time. He was scheduled to perform in both North and SC this week and weekend, but those shows have been canceled due to Hurricane Florence.
