Nixon Slams Mailer Questioning Jewish Support

Nixon, who has Jewish children and went to synagogue to celebrate the Jewish New Year on Sunday, has accused Cuomo of orchestrating a smear campaign.

"The idea that they would accuse me of being soft on anti-Semitism is an outrage".

The governor says he didn't know anything about the mailings.

In this combination of file photos, NY gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon, left, speaks during a Democratic primary debate in Hempstead, N.Y., on August 29, 2018, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo speaks at a press conference in NY on July 18, 2018.

The mailer from the Democratic Party State Committee claims Nixon "won't stand strong for our Jewish communities". The Democratic Socialists of America have been debating whether Nixon's proposed policies are sufficiently radical, and Cuomo has the support of Democratic figureheads like former Vice President Joe Biden.

Cuomo controls the state Democratic Party and recently transferred $2.5 million to its account for election-related expenses.

"While the Nixon campaign has talked about increased turnout among new, young and more progressive voters, it doesn't appear that that will help her", said Greenberg.

The Cuomo campaign insists Gov. Cuomo never approved the mailer.

In her final bid to overtake Cuomo, Nixon pledges, as she has throughout a campaign, to make affordable housing in the state "a basic human right", fix New York City's crumbling subway system, pass single-payer health care and cut a "green New Deal".

Two-term governor Andrew Cuomo, 60, leads Nixon 63-22 percent, up from 60-29 percent in late July, according to the latest Siena College poll of likely Democratic primary voters. The span is expected to reopen to traffic Tuesday evening.
