Chili powder recalled due to potential Salmonella

Spice-loving Sobeys shoppers, take note: store-brand Compliments chili powder sold across Canada is being recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled product.

The product is Compliments chili powder, sold in a 155 gram package with product code 2020 MA 26 and UPC 0 55742 35921 3.

The CFIA says it is conducting an investigation and could issue more recalls in the future.

Even it if doesm't look or smell spoiled, food contaminated with Salmonella can cause serious and even deadly infections in young children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with a weakened immune systems.

If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea.

The CFIA says there haven't been any reported illnesses thus far. Possible long-term complications include severe arthritis.
