Leeds wanted Antonio Conte before Marcelo Bielsa, says owner Andrea Radrizzani

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has revealed he attempted to appoint Antonio Conte as the club's new manager this summer.

"I do not deny that I made an attempt for Conte, I have a weakness for him, I would have offered £20m too", he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

And while the jury was out on Bielsa before the Championship kicked off, his Leeds team have been a revelation in these opening weeks with a dynamic, attacking football that has proved nearly irresistible. Then, I had an interview with Ranieri. "I even spoke to [Roberto] Martinez, but Belgium were an obstacle". "Those words just motivated me even more and we negotiated for a few days then reached an agreement at £3million, which he shares with his staff". If we have one position and three players it's very hard that the third player in the position gets time to play. Wilkinson would go on to win the old First Division title two seasons later - the final championship before the advent of the Premier League - and remains the last Englishman to achieve this feat.

Radrizzani added that if Leeds do not return to the Premier League soon, he will consider a return to Italy, where he was already close to buying Sampdoria, and had been linked with AC Milan before they changed ownership in April 2017.

"For example I have [Luke] Ayling, Dallas and [Jamie] Shackleton, because Shackleton is a youngster who has time to develop in his career, but I can't do the same thing with Ayling, Dallas, and Anita". I'm thinking of Atalanta and Udinese, in addition to Samp.
