Amazon flogging the Essential Phone for just US$280

While most companies are busy releasing budget phones to the market, Essential has just dropped the price of their flagship, the Essential Phone down to $279.

This low price will net you either the Ceramic or Titanium colour options with 128GB onboard storage, 4GB RAM, and a 5.7in edge-to-edge IPS LCD with a 2560 x 1312 resolution. It has a 13MP f/1.9 camera with 4K 30fps capability and an 8MP front camera. At this price no other phone comes even remotely close in terms of raw specfications.

Essential did not land a big hit with the Essential Phone PH-1 despite its great design and advanced features. It also remains one of the most lovely devices on the market, with minimal bezels, a small notch, and is made from premium materials including titanium and ceramic.

One highly publicized aspect of Android Pie was the full support of GUI around display notches - what smartphone makers wanted to do with that space in the "ears" was purely up to them and toolkits would make it easier to handle. Its astonishing how they're selling the phone at such a cheap price.

Exhausted of overpriced flagships that are slow to get upgrades?

You can buy the phone on Amazon from here.

There are a few perks with the Essential Phone as well. Although running last year's Snapdragon 835, it has already been updated to Android 9.0 Pie, making it the only non-Google Pixel phone with an official build of the latest software. It's not clear how long it will last.
