Mailman finds python near mailbox in Overland Park

The scaly creature was found wrapped around the wall-mounted mailbox and railing outside a resident's home, the Overland Park Police said on Twitter.

The Overland Park Police Department says a mail carrier alerted animal control to a rather large ball python slithering around their mailbox.

Once discovered, the carrier called for help from animal control, police said. The poor resident did not receive their mail today (obviously).

"It was too big for her to get and put in a box by herself so called in her boss, the police came", neighbour Holly Gibson told 41 Action News.

"I've seen snakes here - but not one like that", he said. A snake expert told officers that it was obvious the python had been cared for.

The department joked along with the photos that they're working to convince animal control to relocate the python underneath the chief's desk. He was hopeful the owner would report it missing.
