Napoli Owner De Laurentiis

Napoli owner Aurelio de Laurentiis today launched a sensational accusation claiming that both Liverpool and AS Roma are breaking UEFA regulations by having the same ownership without declaring it. "I always doubt that the real owner of Roma is also that of Liverpool, a little bird told me in the ear a few years ago".

"And if that is true, with a shared ownership they could not both compete in the Champions League".

With the Italian Serie A due to commence this weekend, presidents representing two of the country's biggest clubs have been going head to head over the sale of the former Roma 'keeper Alisson to Liverpool.

"Pallotta hit back at De Laurentiis today, saying: "'What do you think De Laurentiis is smoking over there in Naples? De Laurentiis said Napoli had made a €60 million bid for the Brazilian that the Giallorossi had turned down.

"I really can not decipher it", De Laurentiis said.

The Brazilian became the second Roma player to move to Anfield in the past year as he followed the path of star attacker Mohamed Salah.

Henry's Fenway Sports Group bought Liverpool in 2010, and Pallotta bought Roma in 2011 as part of an American investment group led by Thomas DiBenedetto, who is a partner in FSG.

Suggesting that the Napoli president was perhaps listening to the wrong people, the comments did immediately draw up memories of tweets gone by.

"Perhaps we could suggest to him that he should speak a bit with songbirds, who deliver nice melodies rather than speaking nonsense".

"Roma were dismantled and reassembled, I can't evaluate them: I wouldn't have sold Alisson, not even for €100m (£90m/$114m)", he told Corriere dello Sport.
