Kiersey Clemons (Dope) and Ashley Jensen (Extras) have also been cast in the film. Lady and the Tramp is among the many Disney remakes of their animated classics now in production. It told the story of an upscale Cocker Spaniel named Lady meeting a stray mongrel called Tramp.

Majority of the cast will play CGI characters, similar to Disney's wildly successful adaptations of "Beauty and the Beast" and "Jungle Book". When the two dogs meet, they embark on a romantic adventure (think iconic spaghetti kiss) and eventually fall in love.

The movie is expected to debut on Disney's digital streaming service, which will launch in 2019. Thompson, who starred in the studio's Marvel pic Thor: Ragnarok, is in talks for the role of Lady, in which star opposite Justin Theroux, who is the voice of the Tramp. Lady and the Tramp's script is being written by Andrew Bujalski and the movie is being overseen by Disney's VP of production Jessica Virtue and creative executive Chaz Salembier. Look for Thompson to garner Independent Spirit Awards buzz for her turn in Sorry to Bother You, which now boasts a 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. She is also re-teaming with Hemsworth in the new "Men in Black" spin-off. She's represented by Greene & Associates Talent Agency, Mosaic and attorney Jeff Bernstein.
