"I'm very happy to be here and to be a Roma player", Nzonzi told Roma TV of the move.

Sevilla sporting director Joaquin Caparros says Steven Nzonzi wants to leave the club but he will only do so if an "important offer" arrives. "I'm very pleased to be here".

The 29-year-old Olympico signed a four-year contract with the Serie A side and will earn around £60,000-a-week.

"I really felt that the club wanted me to come". I am happy to be working with him again. I thank the fans for welcoming me at the airport and promise to give my all.

"Yes, Monchi signed me at Sevilla", N'Zonzi said.

Italian giants AS Roma were rumored to be chasing Kenyan worldwide Victor Wanyama but the deal looks to have collapsed with Roma reportedly close to signing Sevilla midfielder Steven Nzonzi according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Roma confirmed the news with a characteristically colourful announcement video, featuring fighter jets, rap music and police motorbikes that eventually saw N'Zonzi emerge from a black vehicle to meet supporters.

Having already signed big players such as Javier Pastore, Justin Kluivert, Gregoire Defrel and Davide Santon in this window, they are looking set for a big campaign this summer, even if they have lost their goalkeeper. He made 90 appearances in La Liga and played 195 times in the Premier League for Blackburn Rovers and Stoke.

He is expected to challenge club captain Daniele De Rossi for a place in Eusebio Di Francesco's midfield.
