Thanks to the two studios' mutual appreciation of just how valuable a main character Spider-Man is, Sony's reportedly amenable to the idea of finding more walk-on roles for MCU characters in future Spider-Man films - much like Spidey himself stowed away with Tony Stark in Avengers: Infinity War.

The Tom Hardy Venom movie is due out this October, which will launch the Sony Spider-Man spinoff universe, and now we get an update on its progress. According to Variety, Sony is throwing a nickname around for its cinematic universe called Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters, or SUMC.

Plot details on the film are now under wraps, though director Ruben Fleischer has previously stated that the film will be based on the Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes comic book runs.

Regarding Kraven the Hunter, Richard Wenk (The Equalizer 2) is now writing the script, with the film moving forward.

"Marvel and Sony have strengthened their ties in recent years". Sony plans for their universe to include films based on Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, Black Cat, Silver Sable, Silk, Jackpot, and Nightwatch.

Variety also reports Sony is going to continue with their plans for diversity as the "studio is leaning in to female stories at a time when there's pressure on Hollywood to create more movies featuring women and minorities". "Because our character does not originate from Spider-Man, it makes no sense to put a spider on his chest. We feel there's no reason the Marvel characters shouldn't be able to embrace diversity". Way back when, Amy Pascal said that Venom and its ilk would take place in an "adjunct" to the MCU, but Kevin Feige then backtracked on this and said that there was no connection between the two studios on these projects.
