Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says he is "not confident" of signing another player before Thursday's transfer deadline at 17:00 BST. Mahrez bolsters City´s already impressive array of attacking talent and, while Guardiola missed out on Italy midfielder Jorginho, who instead joined Chelsea, the champions´ combination of youthful swagger and world-class talent still makes them favourites to reign supreme again at the end of the season.

Asked if nothing would happen in or out before the Premier League deadline at 5pm, he said: "The information I have is no (nothing will happen)".

Liverpool have invested heavily over the summer as they look to pose a challenge to last season's runaway champions, Manchester City, but the same can't be said for United.

"I am not confident", Mourinho said.

"We have only seen him when he has appeared in front of the TV cameras this summer and heard what he has told the media, and I suspect he will behave very differently on the training ground with his players".

"I focus on just what we have, and we go with everything we have to the first match".

Spurs failed to make an addition to their squad over the summer, meaning they will go into the new season with the same squad that finished the last one.

Press Association Sport understands United have been keen to sign a centre-back, but Leicester's reluctance to sell Harry Maguire looks to have scuppered any move for the England star.

It adds up to an exciting team and by getting their major transfer business done early, Klopp has had time to integrate his new signings into the squad over the course of the pre-season tour of America. Mourinho also has selection problems for the Leicester game, with Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia and Dalot ruled out because of injuries and Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young and Marouane Fellaini not considered fully fit after being given extra time off to recover from the World Cup.

"If they feel they can help us [against Leicester] - 20 minutes, 10 minutes, half an hour". The way in which United are being talked about this pre-season, it's as if they've got a load of bums playing for them.

"So it's hard for me to understand or to feel or to believe that we finished second, which I keep saying that I - and sometimes it's also hard to believe - that I won eight championships and three Premier Leagues".

I think they know they're not really going to be seen as a great team and that Pep is not going to be seen as someone that has dominated English football if he doesn't win two in two or three in three.
