Tom Brady, Quarterback, New England Patriots, and Founder of TB12, speaks at the Milken Institute 21st Global Conference in Beverly Hills, California, U.S., April 30, 2018.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick did not provide further information on a Boston Globe report that quarterback Tom Brady is dealing with a sore back, which has affected his workload, but acknowledged the team is balancing multiple factors in scaling back the work of some players. Matt Ryan now owns the highest average salary at $30 million, followed by Krik Cousins ($28 million), Jimmy Garoppolo ($27.5 million), Matthew Stafford ($27 million), Derek Carr and Drew Brees (both at $25 million).

Brady is now set to make $15 million, but will be given a variety of performance-based bonuses to bring him closer to the actual QB market.

After skipping voluntary offseason workouts in May for personal reasons, Brady was asked if his contract status was a reason he stayed away from the team.

In March 2016, Brady signed a two-year, $41 million extension with more than $28 million in guarantees. Ten other quarterbacks have a higher salary cap value than Brady, who is slated to earn $15 million in 2018.
