Fleetwood, who tees off up in Thursday's first round of the USPGA Championship, finished in a tie for 12 at Carnoustie and collected $154,480.

After his 12th place finish at The Open last month, Tommy Fleetwood was transferred the €133,000 or so prize money during the week.

It may have been easy to miss for the more accomplished Fleetwood, whose career earnings are listed at $20.32 million on the European Tour's website.

Thomas Fleetwood is a club professional based at Streamstrong Resort in Florida, who was born in 1959 and contested the European Senior Tour's qualifying school four times from 2013.

"I honestly didn't know anything about it".

The American Fleetwood was with his friend Greg Thorner when he got a shock to see the windfall on his account statement, straight after a supermarket payment of US$14.37.

Fleetwood was tied for twelfth at The Open after he shot -3 for the tournament, Francesco Molinari was the overall victor on -8, and on the eve of the PGA Championship, it appears that Fleetwood has finally checked his bank account to see if his winnings from The Open were lodged. He's in his fifties now but played some Challenge Tour events on the European Tour back in the day, and they must still have his details on file.

"I wouldn't even know if I'd been paid or not because I don't really look".

'I wouldn't even know if I'd been paid or not because I don't really look.

The tour have apologised to both Fleetwoods, while the better known one's wife and manager Clare was off to check their bank account. He was not positive it was the same amount that Tommy won at the Open but we checked and it was. It looks pretty genuine and they are looking into it and I'm sure they'll feel pretty bad about it.
