MLAs, Amarjeet Singh Sandoa and Kultar Singh, were detained at Ottawa airport in Canada, sources told on Sunday. Mr Sandhwan and Mr Sandoa were reportedly detained and questioned by the Canadian immigration officials over the goal of their visit. While the reason for them being turned away could not be ascertained, three AAP MLAs said the authorities were not convinced about the goal of their visit.

Mr Sandoa, an MLA from the Ropar constituency, has been in news recently over his run-ins with the sand mining mafia and was hospitalised after an alleged assault on him.

Earlier on Friday, Ropar court had imposed the charges (, criminal intimidation, outraging the modesty of a woman, uttering obscene words, and voluntarily causing hurt) on the MLA Amarjit. According to the reports, they were detained at around 9 am (IST) and later they were sent to India via Air Canada flight to Delhi.

The state unit of the Aam Aadmi Party said they couldn't comment on the reason behind the MLAs deportation before speaking to them.

One of the MLAs may have mentioned to Canadian immigration officials that he was in the country for political meetings, the Indian Express reported, citing a senior AAP leader.
