InfoScout Survey Reveals Early Insights on 2018 Amazon Prime Day Shoppers

InfoScout identified shoppers in its omnichannel purchase panel who made an Amazon purchase during the first 24 hours of Prime Day 2018.

Amazon's record-setting haul from this year's "Prime Day" sales promotion could have been even larger if not for website glitches, according to a report Thursday.

Prime Day was just as lucrative for small- and medium-sized businesses that sell their products on Amazon, as they grossed over $1 billion in sales. Most encouragingly, Prime Day also witnessed great traction for Amazon's own products ranging from Fire TV stick to Echo.

In the growing battle between the online retail giant and traditional brick and mortar retail centers, Prime Day was a huge victory, especially as membership sign-ups were lagging earlier in the year.

Mobile surpassed browser shopping. Private label deals were prominently featured on landing pages. Selected private label apparel and shoes were discounted up to 50 percent while furniture and household goods were discounted at 30 percent. According to Adobe Analytics, it event boosted sales among other large retailers sales by 54%, which could be attributed to increased conversions on their own sites.

The Minneapolis-based company did not give specific numbers, but said it was "the highest single day of traffic and online sales" this year.

The recently launched Vodafone Youth Offer on Amazon Prime in India also encouraged the digital video platform's younger consumers to binge more on comedy.

"We were excited to bring Amazon's epic shopping event to Singapore for the first time this year to say "thank you" to our members", said Henry Low, director of Prime Now Asia-Pacific.
