If bad things happen in threes, good news must come in pairs, as CBS All Access made two exciting reveals during its Star Trek: Discovery panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday. Marvel's Inhumans star Anson Mount will take over the role in Star Trek: Discovery.

It's unknown how extensive Romijn's appearance will be in Season 2 of Discovery, which, according to information revealed at the panel, will follow Captain Pike taking command of the USS Discovery to investigate seven mysterious signals in space. There's also a tease that Mr. Spock could be appearing later in the season as well.

During the panel, Mount confirmed that his "Number One" will be a woman, just like Majel Barrett during Star Trek: The Original Series.

CBS also announced the creation of Star Trek: Short Treks, a quartet of 10-15 minute additional episodes that will roll out monthly this fall.

Pike isn't the only notable Star Trek character serving aboard the Enterprise during this time period in the history of the Star Trek universe. I'll be back. We're not telling you how.

With original showrunner Bryan Fuller out, replacement showrunners Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts also gone, and Kurtzman now in, Star Trek: Discovery seems to be going all out for its second season to make up for the various changing of hands and the bumpy journey it's had from concept to execution to final product. See them in action in the preview above, and in the thrilling new photos below.

As a prequel series set a decade before the original '60s Star Trek, the new season of Discovery will be able to brush up against canon that Trekkies and Trekkers are very familiar with.

Watch the official trailer for season 2 of the CBS All-Access series "Star Trek: Discovery" starring Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Shazad Latif, Anthony Rapp, Anson Mount, and Mary Wiseman.
