"We didn't have that much contact after he left Roma".

The 25-year-old signed a long-term contract with the Reds after undergoing a physical examination and completing the formalities of his switch at Melwood on Thursday.

With Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho having been brought in for a combined £118million, Klopp has shown his willingness to spend big in order to improve his defence, while he has spent a further £125 million on Salah, Keïta and Mané further forward.

Though a 5-2 defeat at Anfield effectively ended Roma's hopes of making it to Kiev, Alisson described his memories of the April clash on Merseyside as forming part of his decision to sign for Klopp's men.

'We met again in the game when we were up against each other [in the Champions League last season].

Alisson spoke to the Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp, on Tuesday and had his heart set on a move to the Champions League finalists. "It will happen a lot in the next few weeks I guess and that's it, so we are really happy to have him here now". We have the squad for now and that's the most important thing.

Liverpool sign Roma goalkeeper Alisson for world-record £66.9mn
Great news for Liverpool fans as Roma release statement on Alisson

"To be with these great people and players day to day is fantastic for me".

"The full package is just good", he told the club's official website.

BleacherReport's football insider, Dean Jones, tweeted today that he believes the Fekir deal could be back on. The league is different, the refs are different, the goalkeeper life is different in the Premier League.

Liverpool and Roma agreed the final details of the transfer yesterday with the fee, which include €5mn in add-ons, to be paid over two years.

The long-standing record was held by Gianluigi Buffon, who was signed by Juventus from Parma for 43m euros in the 2001/02 season, but now the Brazilian takes top spot.
