"I believe so", he said. As he's very young I said "OK, have two weeks" holiday and then we'll speak and see'.

The Reds ended up in fourth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy last season as they missed out on the Champions League title.

Sturridge, who joined Liverpool from Chelsea in January 2013, enjoyed his best season in a red shirt when he played alongside Raheem Sterling and Luis Suarez in 2013-2014, scoring 21 goals in 29 league games. A strong and imposing figure, he will be crucial to helping protect Liverpool's defence though his manager acknowledges it may take time for him to become attuned to the English game. That shows he needs time to adapt to different styles.

The settling in process, however, is not expected to be a big hurdle.

With all the hullabaloo surrounding the world record purchase of Brazil number one Alisson Becker, you could be forgiven for forgetting that there may perhaps be an Irish solution to Liverpool's goalkeeping woes.

"I told him although we are friends, when we play each other maybe I will be a bit harsh on him". Jürgen Klopp has the lads playing simply awesome football and is attracting the very hottest talent to Anfield and not just that, he is beating some of the best clubs to them. No conversation would be complete without mention of Kylian Mbappe and it prompts another smile.

"Kylian Mbappe sent me a text message congratulating me for coming to Liverpool".

Klopp expects to be without Croatia defender Dejan Lovren, who made the World Cup final, and England midfielder Jordan Henderson, who played in the semi-finals in Russian Federation, for Liverpool's opening game of the season against West Ham.

"What France did was fantastic".

Young prodigy Lukas Nmecha would be the first name that springs to mind, with the 19-year-old ready for more senior football after two Premier League cameos and one appearance in the Carabao Cup last season for Pep Guardiola's side. As soon as I have the chance, I will.

He has already said for the next season he will remain at PSG. but I will try slowly to convince him to come to Liverpool!'
