The Reds have agreed a £66.8 million fee with their Serie A counterparts, with Alisson travelling to Merseyside to undergo a medical and negotiate a five-year contract.

He has been on holiday after playing in all five of Brazil's fixtures at the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer before they were knocked out by Belgium in the quarterfinals.

Speaking ahead of the Champions League semi-final tie between the two clubs last season, Alisson revealed he was "good friends" with Liverpool forward and compatriot Robert Firmino.

However, one position Jurgen Klopp has been under pressure to improve is between the sticks, as goalkeeper Loris Karius endured a nightmare Champions League final against Real Madrid, which has been compounded by a torrid pre-season too. Alisson is a goalkeeping maestro who has an huge potential to turn Liverpool's biggest weakness for many years into a major strength.

The club are not prepared to say anything publicly until the deal is completed and as yet no medical has been arranged, with the possibility remaining that another club could match Liverpool's offer. The French international's move from Lyon to Anfield appeared imminent before the World Cup, only for it to collapse at the eleventh hour.

How does Alisson's fee compare to the 10 most expensive keepers of all time?

"In terms of squad planning, I am really fine". A lot will come once the other boys are back. "He's a great guy, was a strong part of the locker room dynamic and we're sorry to see him go, but life is like that". That is clear. Big teams, successful teams, if you don't buy it you have to build it.

"That means stay together, bring additions in and make the next step".

"We had the situation last season where we had 12 [first-team] players [fit]".
