Google Assistant can now help you keep track of your day

The search giant said Tuesday it's launching a new "visual snapshot" feature in the Google Assistant app that will give users a rundown of all their important meetings, restaurant or movie suggestions, commute times, upcoming bills and more.

Google says the app will provide "curated, helpful information" depending on what time of day it is, where you are and your recent interactions with Google Assistant.

Back before Google Assistant began usurping some of the most major features of Google Now, Google Now was the do-everything smart part of Android.

The new feature, accessible through the new icon in the top right corner of Assistant, also integrates with third-party apps like Spotify, to present a range of different actions you can take.

With the latest update - to Android and iOS - there's a "Visual Snapshot" feature.

Google Assistant Gets Proactive

And if you want to let Assistant get even more proactive, you can switch on notifications. Even Cortana has a similar feature, albeit not as powerful as Google Assistant. The feature evolved to focus more on a feed of news stories and eventually the at-a-glance personal information tab was pushed to the side, hidden on the Google Feed page, only if you're using the stock Google launcher on stock Android phones (something that most Android users are not). Here's a complete list of actions for Assistant.

For instance Google Assistant will provide travel times to places in your agenda or things you have asked Google Assistant.

Google's $130 (£105) Home speaker is triggered by the phrase "Hey Google" while Amazon's Echo uses "Alexa".

That little icon in Google Assistant may not look like much, but it heralds a return to form for Google.
