R Pikes Peak is a machine that's absolutely a force to reckon with and with Romain Dumas behind its wheels, there's no stopping it. Hard cheese in one sense - but still reportedly the fastest time ever set by a road auto on slicks at the Festival of Speed.

He was able to lap Goodwood in 43.05 seconds, beating the previous record, belonging to a Lola-Drayson B12 69/EV, by over four seconds.

Having smashed the all-time record at Pikes Peak last month, the I.D.

Professional rallycross driver Liam Doran, who coincidentally is actually Pat's oldest son, drove the vehicle during the timed lap for only a few seconds as shortly after the start of the lap, the RS200's rear bodywork came off.

Meantime, the record-breaking Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo, which recently obliterated the longstanding Nurburgring Nordschleife record, was also an honourable mention at the Goodwood event.

If Dumas wants to set an outright record, he'll have to beat the incredible time of 41.6 seconds set by Nick Heidfeld in a McLaren MP4/13 Formula 1 auto back in 1999.

Porsche declined to chase a time in the 919, but the time sheets revealed it set a post of 49.86 seconds on the Sunday afternoon, without its driver, Neel Jani, really trying.

Is there truly any replacement for displacement?
