Welcome news for Tom Petty fans all over the world. In fact, today, his estate has announced plans to release a new box set titled An American Treasure, filled with 60 of his songs, dozens of which have gone unreleased before now.

The set was previewed on SiriusXM with an unreleased song dating from 1982 called "Keep a Little Soul" (not to be confused with the 1967 hit by the Music Explosion, "Little Bit O" Soul, ' which Petty and the Heartbreakers performed live).

Keep A Little Soul is classic Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers; it was recorded in 1982 during the sessions for the Long After Dark album, but didn't make the final cut.

The death of Tom Petty a year ago after a triumphant tour with his band The Heartbreakers is still hard for many to fully wrap their heads around. Variety reports that the collection will span Petty's entire career, and also feature covers of songs by other artists.

It was compiled by Petty's widow Dana and his daughter Adria, along with Heartbreakers' keyboardist Belmont Trench, guitarist Mike Campbell and longtime collaborator Ryan Ulyate.

'The criteria was songs that we all felt really said something about dad, ' Adria Petty revealed in an interview with CBS News 'It's such a unusual thing to lose someone like him. And I think a lot of people thought he was pretty cool'.

American Treasure is out 9/28. The Super Deluxe Limited Edition of the set will feature a 84-page book featuring photographs, an essay, and original handwritten lyrics by Petty.

Tom Petty's An American Treasure box set is set to be released on September 28 via Reprise Records.
