Stormy Daniels, the porn star now in legal battles with U.S. President Donald Trump, speaks during a ceremony in her honor in West Hollywood, California, U.S., May 23, 2018.

"Just received [sic] word that my client Stormy Daniels was arrested in Columbus Ohio while [sic] performing the same act she has performed across the nation at almost a hundred strip clubs", Avenatti tweeted. It reeks of desperation, ' he wrote.

"This was a setup & politically motivated".

'We will fight all bogus charges'.

"They are devoting law enforcement resources to sting operations for this?"

Daniels was scheduled to appear at the Sirens strip club on Wednesday and Thursday nights, the club's website says.

Avenatti said Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford, was arrested while "performing the same act she has performed across the nation at almost a hundred strip clubs". We will vehemently contest all charges. Trump has denied the affair happened.

She's suing Trump and his former longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen, and seeking to invalidate a nondisclosure agreement she signed days before the 2016 presidential election.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, was in police custody early on Thursday morning and expected to face a misdemeanor charge, Avenatti said.

Cohen has said he made the payment.

A defamation lawsuit was also filed in April, alleging the President tried to tarnish her reputation and credibility by dismissing her claim a man threatened her in 2011, when she was ready to go public about her alleged affair with Trump.
