Rangers manager Steven Gerrard held his first official pre-match press conference yesterday as our preparations for tonight's big kick-off against FC Shkupi in the First Qualifying Round of the Europa League continue.

"Rangers can give these boy a stage and platform to perform on".

Gerrard expressed his delight at his two most recent additions - Roma's Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq and Mali worldwide midfielder Lassana Coulibaly of French club Angers who have both joined Rangers on season-long loan deals.

And Gerrard has revealed that there are still plans for further strengthening.

"There's no number on it", Gerrard told reporters. "We'll be there when we're there".

"When I see that the team and the squad is strong enough to compete against the best sides domestically and also against teams we are going to come up against in the Europa, that's when we will be ready". They have done exactly what they said they would do when we spoke before I got the job.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is keen on adding the Lions defender to the ranks as he looks to end Celtic's dominance of Scottish football.

Dominic Solanke, Harry Wilson and Jake Cooper are among the players to have been linked with Rangers in recent times. "I won't add to speculation at all".

Space in the squad is being freed up by the departure of veteran Bruno Alves, who is joining Parma on a free transfer.

He also scored two goals for the Ibrox club.
