That caution proved to well founded as Mario Mandzukic's extra-time victor fired Croatia into Sunday's final against France as England's expense in a tense semi-final in Moscow, with Keane biding his time before revisiting his previous discussion with Wright.

The quartet of former footballers were last together earlier in the tournament and viewers got a real kick out of Keane telling his colleagues to cool the jets after they beat Panama 6-1.

Ivan Perisic scored with an improvised finish after 68-minutes, England began to look rattled and their composure went.

But he is yet to fully convince and win the trust of everyone, and is still susceptible to occasional errors, highlighted by his stray pass that allowed Russian Federation a chance to go clear on goal in the closing minutes of the quarter-final. The Juventus forward ran in behind England defence and fired past Jordan Pickford.

On ITV following the match, it got rather tense between Roy Keane and Ian Wright.

Wednesday's game is Lovren's biggest on the worldwide stage thus far, and it is perhaps his toughest test after the Champions League final, which he aced.

As fellow pundits Gary Neville and Lee Dixon laugh, Wright says: "We weren't talking about the final, we were having a laugh".

"The fact is we were happy, and you weren't happy with us being happy".

"And I was right". "I don't mind you getting excited, but it was a semi-final!"

Republic of Ireland assistant boss made it clear that he was not impressed with former England striker Wright as he was "getting carried away" with the prospect of Gareth Southgate's side going all the way to the World Cup final, when they were still playing in the group stages of the competition. "You need a reality check".
