Ivan Perisic equalised for Croatia with 20 minutes remaining before the Inter winger set up Mario Mandzukic for a dramatic victor in extra time.

Emotions were running high across the nation as Gareth Southgate's squad were edged out by Croatia.

Apparently, the former Labour leader was also upset and took to Twitter to blast the reaction of Roy Keane in the ITV studio.

The former Manchester United midfielder was alongside Ian Wright, Gary Neville and Lee Dixon.

In the end, Keane ended up having it out with former England striker Ian Wright, who defended England for beating the expectations and getting as far as the semi-finals, and when Keane wouldn't hear him out, Wright simply resorted to making fun of the way Keane pronounces the word "final" - although Keane got his digs in as well, telling Wright: "You're a grown man". I know England may have thought it was a bit tongue and cheek a few weeks ago, but you've got to focus on just one game at a time.

Wright then repeated "final" in a mock Irish accent, causing Keane to say: 'You know what I'm talking about.

But Keane remains stony-faced, replying: "You were getting carried away".

"And I was right".

"You were talking about the final. You need a reality check".

At the half-way mark, with England unlucky not to have more than a 1-0 lead in their first World Cup semi-final in 28 years, Roy Keane reckoned the players "would never forgive themselves" if they threw this one away.

ENGLAND PLAYER RATINGS: England lost 2-1 after extra time to Croatia this evening at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, but how did each player perform?

But Twitter users were quick to peg back Mr Miliband.

Another added: "Roy Keane dropping truth bombs and taking Ian Wright to school", while another said: '@GNev2 @IanWright0 legends!

"Roy Keane is just bad I am sorry". "Best match of this World Cup".
