Riyad Mahrez joined Manchester City in a deal worth £60 million (R1 billion) on Tuesday, and became one of the club's highest-paid players in the process.

Despite City spending £60m on the 27-year-old, questions have been asked about where the former Leicester forward will fit into Pep Guardiola's plans. It's a Champions League team, who want to win trophies every season. I want to be part of this. "They want to go further in Europe each season and I am here to try and help them".

Mahrez, who made 179 appearances for Leicester, scoring 48 times, admits there is a fine array of attacking talent already at City, including such as Belgian Kevin de Bruyne, Argentinian Sergio Aguero, German Leroy Sane and others, but he isn't losing any sleep over where he slots in. 'Competition is part of football. You can improve yourself and the squad. I thought what City did a year ago was incredible, it was unbelievable to break all those Premier League records, but I am confident about myself. "If I'd moved sooner maybe I wouldn't have been happy, I don't know". "I'm very happy and will give my best to this club". They broke all the Premier League records which is unbelievable, but no I never thought about this.

Speaking about his new boss Pep Guardiola, Mahrez added: "Pep is a big manager who has won a lot of things and made history at this club".

"They have everything they need to succeed in the Champions League and that's where I want to play".

Mahrez also heaped praise on England after they were knocked out of the World Cup by Croatia on Wednesday night. They deserve a lot of credit for what they have achieved because reaching the semi final is very, very hard.
