Say 'hello' to the DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone

Amidst the news of the DJI Launch Event being postponed from its original 18th July date (confirmed by DroneValley earlier today), this photo may bring some hope to those that were still pondering the topic of the event.

When DJI launched the compact Mavic Air drone in January for $800, it seemed like there was no longer a compelling enough reason to splash money on the older, larger, and more expensive Mavic Pro quadcopter. You might see the Mavic 2 soon, but not that soon.

We have just received this photo of what would appear to be the first credible photo of the DJI Mavic Pro 2 in the wild, at this time we can not confirm its authenticity but it looks pretty convincing. The drone also appeared to have two different sensor sizes, with what looked like a 1-inch sensor equipped to it and a 1/1.7 sensor on the table.

Fans of the "quiet" propellers that were in the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 and DJI Mavic Pro Platinum will be disappointed with this new drone. This may explain the title of the See the Bigger Picture event. The timing certainly seems right for a followup to 2016's Mavic Pro, and the "bigger picture" event artwork appears to confirm a focus on imaging. And whether or not the Mavic 2 would represent a good deal would depend on whether or not the price is comparable to the $999 you pay for a Mavic Pro.

DJI is one of the top companies in the world of personal drones for shooting video and other content. DJI also has a history of having a tough time keeping its new products under wraps.

Another feature that was speculated from the leaked DJI Mavic 2 image is 360-degree obstacle avoidance.

DJI was scheduled to hold a drone-focused event later this month, but it has since been pushed back with murmuring suggesting that the company needed more time to ideal its latest aerial offering. There has been no official comment from DJI on the leaked drone.
