Manchester City confirm the signing of Algeria global Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City on a five-year deal for a club-record £60m.

The Algeria global had his medical at City's training base today.

City have retained their interest in Mahrez ever since and finally agreed a deal to take him from Leicester early this week.

The Algeria global handed in a transfer request in January, but having failed to seal a move to the Etihad Stadium, the 27-year-old was initially told to stay away from first-team training for a 10-day period by his employers. Leicester said in a statement the deal was a "club-record fee".

"I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola", Mahrez told the club's official website.

Mahrez, who was so upset at not gaining his move to City at the beginning of the year he sat out two matches, said his new club were revolutionising the game in England.

"Watching them from afar has been a pleasure".

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: "Riyad is a hugely talented player".

Mahrez's experience of winning the Premier League will certainly have left him hungry for more success, and he now has the chance to achieve that once more under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola.

Since Mahrez made his Premier League debut in 2014, only eight players - Eden Hazard, Diego Costa, Eriksen, Jamie Vardy, Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane - have been involved in more goals.

"I believe my own game can develop under Pep's management". He will be welcomed back to King Power Stadium as both an opposition player and a friend of the Club.
