Dier inspired by Sterling's handling of criticism

Croatia's coach Zlatko Dalic attends a training session at the Adler training ground in Sochi on July 5, 2018, ahead of the Russian Federation 2018 FIFA World Cup quarter final football match between Russian Federation and Croatia.

However, Sterling has also received support from David Beckham, who joined Neville in defending the 23-year-old.

Going by the law of averages, he's bound to break his duck soon and might just score against Croatia to mark England's first World Cup semi-final appearance since 1990.

David Beckham has leaped to Raheem Sterling's defence after the forward was criticised on social media at half-time during England's World Cup quarter-final victory over Sweden.

'I think he's had a fantastic tournament so far and hopefully that can continue in the next week'.

"I think Raheem Sterling is an important player because he is fast and risky alongside Harry Kane", Dalic said in a press conference Sunday.

The City star has learned to brush aside the off-pitch scrutiny, and teammate Eric Dier is in no doubt as to his contribution to England's success.

"But we believe in our strengths, too".

Playing alongside Liverpool's Dejan Lovren, Vida has been one of the best defenders at Russian Federation 2018 and Dalic said he would be key to Croatia's plans to keeping Kane out, just as they stopped Argentina's Lionel Messi and Christian Eriksen of Denmark.

"I think Raheem has been fundamental to the way we have played - his movement, the positions he takes up, his pressing of the ball, his work rate for the team, the winning of free-kicks, the winning of corners, his speed to stretch teams", Southgate told the ITV World Cup podcast.

"If we were to send England on holiday, too, it would be great because England has one of the best leagues in the world, if not the best".

"If we had England's money, who knows where we'd be in our country?"
