Manchester City have completed the signing of Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahez.

Mahrez, who was a key player in Leicester's 2016 title-winning side, told Manchester City's official website: "I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola".

Mahrez joined Leicester from Le Havre in January 2014 and helped them to a first place finish in the Championship.

City tried to sign him on deadline day just six months ago, but were rebuffed at the eleventh hour by the Foxes as they tried to recoup close to £100m for their player.

Mahrez was given permission by the Foxes to miss their pre-season trip to France on Monday to conclude the deal.

The 27-year-old has been a long-term target for City, and moves to the Premier League champions on a five-year-deal for a fee believed to be in the region of £60m.

The Algerian superstar has been desperate to seal a transfer from Leicester City to his dream club since the start of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign.

With his quality on the ball, ability to take on opposition players and his extensive passing range, the youngster would soon make himself hugely popular among the King Power Stadium faithful.

And Txiki Begiristain, City's director of football, says he is delighted to have finally captured one of the best players in the English top flight. He had been under contract for two more seasons until the summer of 2020.

"Watching them from afar has been a pleasure".
