But in the aftermath of pure tragedy, Renard's family memorialized his life at his wake by displaying him in position doing what he loved most: Playing NBA2K and cheering for his Celtics.

Renard Matthews, who passed away two weeks ago, was a big Kyrie Irving fan. His wake was on Sunday afternoon and Matthews' family chose to prepare his body in a way that will allow them to remember him the way he lived his life. He wore a Kyrie Irving Boston Celtics jersey, sunglasses and a pair of Irving's socks.

Friends and family gathered at the Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home on Sunday in Treme, New Orleans, to honor Matthews.

While some may find this rather peculiar, the sentiment reminds me of the concept of altars and shrines for the fallen in which people would place items representing the person and what they love.

Matthews, a native of New Orleans, will be buried Tuesday at Interment Providence Memorial Park.
