House of Cards actress Robin Wright has opened up about her relationship with Kevin Spacey during an interview on TODAY, ahead of the Netflix show's final season.

Season six was supposed to go on with both actors, but because Spacey was involved in a huge sexual misconduct scandal, that was, of course, no longer possible, and Netflix actually canceled the show initially. Since then, more alleged victims have come forward, with theatre bosses at The Old Vic theatre receiving over 20 complaints.

Spacey was eventually dismissed from "House of Cards" after the claims emerged.

According to Patricia Clarkson, who debuted as Deputy Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade Jane Davis in season 5, it was Robin Wright who came to the show's rescue.

'It was truly the great Robin Wright rallying. She said, "We have attractive showrunners, Frank (Pugliese) and Melissa (Gibson), and they killed themselves to rethink the whole show". I think it is gonna be a stunning, stunning new season'.

"We have lovely showrunners, Frank [Pugliese] and Melissa [Gibson], and they killed themselves to rethink the whole show", she added of the efforts made to recreate the series without its Emmy-winning star, who was sacked while production on the sixth season was well underway.

The sixth and final season of the show has been shortened to eight episodes and includes major cast additions Diane Lane, Greg Kinnear and Cody Fern.
