Amid furore over his administration's border policies and threats to trade partners, Trump tweeted his displeasure at Fallon's regret on Sunday, telling the TV host to "be a man". He called & said "monster ratings".

The President took to his favorite figurative megaphone, Twitter, on Sunday night to tell the late-night host to "Be a man".

Clearly, POTUS thinks he did just fine.

"It just got bigger and out of control", Fallon said in the podcast.

"There's 300 people that work here, and so when people are talking that bad about you and ganging up on you, in a really gang-mentality.", he said.

"I'm sorry. I don't want to make anyone angry - I never do and I never will". "You know the grind and you know me". So now what? Are you happy?

Hours after the US President's damning tweet, Fallon responded he would be making a donation to RAICES Texas, the non-profit firm that provides legal services to immigrants.

This might've been the remark that triggered the president, though he's proven it doesn't take much for him to take Twitter retribution.

Fallon said he never meant to "normalize" Trump, noting that he had Hillary Clinton on the next week and joked with her as well. In the episode, Fallon asked Trump, then the Republican nominee for president, if he could "mess up" the nominee's hair.

Calling it a "downtime", Fallon said that he "made a mistake", and apologized if he "made anyone mad".

"In honor of the President's tweet I'll be making a donation to RAICES in his name", Fallon said, referring to a non-profit organisation that provides free and low-priced legal services to immigrant children, families and refugees in Texas.
