Kottayam: A 30-year-old ardent fan of Argentina has gone missing from his home in Kottayam, reportedly over the South American team's defeat in Federation Internationale de Football Association world cup match, police said on Friday.

A note left behind by the man - identified as 30-year-old Dinu Alex - said he was unable to bear the pain of witnessing his favourite team's defeat. "A quick search revealed a suicide note in which he says he is leaving the world as he has nothing more to watch and see", said the officer. He was working at a private food supplying company in Kottayam. Though some of his friends called him after the match, his mobile was switched off.

The police were alerted, and fire force personnel immediately launched a search in the bulging Meenachal river. She told him to go to bed as he had to go to work the next day.

According to Alex's father, Alex was an avid fan of Barcelona Messi. And rivalries between Argentina and Brazil fans in the state is very common during World Cup season. Heavy rains and strong currents in the swollen river hampered the operation. Dinu was a Chemistry graduate and his name also figured in the PSC lower division clerk rank list.
