Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is hoping to find a long-term replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who left for Barcelona in January, and they are reportedly willing to part ways with a club record fee to bring in Real Madrid's Marco Asensio this summer.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed why he did not sell Nabil Fekir to Liverpool , and has confirmed that Real Madrid could now sign the France worldwide.

Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports News told the Transfer Talk podcast that Fekir's agent was still discussing the possibility of a deal and the transfer was not dead in the water, despite Liverpool claiming that the situation remained the same.

Fekir appeared all set to move to Anfield in a £60 million (€68m/$80m) deal prior to the World Cup, only for Lyon to pull the plug on the deal at the eleventh hour.

"It was anticipated at one stage that he could leave for Liverpool".

"He was supposed to go to Liverpool at a certain point, I gave a green light, [but] things did not happen because they lasted too long". Nabil is an exceptional player. It's true that because a move to Liverpool was not conclusive we sparked the interest of lots of other clubs and not just Real Madrid.

"Everything is possible, but we want him to stay". I have always listened as a priority, the players are my sons.
