"We're going to keep families together and the border is going to be just as tough as it's been", Mr Trump told the cheering crowd in Duluth, Minnesota.

The hardscrabble region has a long history of boom-and-bust economies and has fallen victim to cheaper steel imports that have forced US producers to close area taconite mines and curb production.

While miners like Trump tariffs, including putting them on Chinese steel, the agriculture industry has a different view because China threatens its own tariffs, especially on American soybeans, pork and beef.

Trump is also falsely accusing the media of making a big deal of immigration to distract the public from congressional inquiries into the Justice Department.

California, with seven times as many residents, is the only other state with that many districts rated the same way by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report. "Number one in the world for four or five years".

The long-held Democratic seat is considered a top pickup opportunity for Republicans.

"I feel like Trump truly does care about Americans", said Schwartz, who drove 12 hours to see the president on Wednesday.

Adam Morse, who works at U.S. Steel's Minntac facility in Mountain Iron, also was on the panel.

Again attacking the special counsel probe as a "witch hunt", Trump went on to blast the media for focusing on the recent immigration crisis at the expense of covering what he contends is bias against him at the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

She said Trump "connects with people".

According to Eurasia Group President Ian Bremner, Trump chose to throw candies to Merkel after an apparent attempt to pressure him was into signing a new rules-based worldwide order.

"The president won the 8th District by nearly 16 points and is as popular - if not more popular - now than on Election Day".

Trump's Duluth visit was one of two planned in two weeks in the Upper Midwest. "He has a base out of the largest population center to build from and he will have an appeal on the Iron Range", he said.

Trump praised Kim at the rally, telling supporters that the leader will "turn that country into a great, successful country".

Trump's 2020 campaign declined to comment beyond a June 11 statement it issued announcing the Duluth event. He raved about the economy and his tough new tariffs meant to create fair trade.

Minnesota has historically been a Democratic stronghold.

The president also raised the North Korea summit, calling it an "incredible success".

The Duluth rally was Trump's first in a blue state since taking office. I became president and they didn't'.

The Trump order, an unusual reversal by him, moves parents with children to the front of the line for immigration proceedings but it does not end a 10-week-old "zero tolerance" policy that calls for prosecution of immigrants crossing the border illegally under the country's criminal entry statute. Tina Smith, told the audience on Wednesday.
