DeAndre Ayton Already Has A Rivalry

With all the top heavy picks talk of this draft, many prospects that I think will end up being contributors were late first and second round picks. Suns general manager Ryan McDonough didn't exactly hide his intentions, either.

That workout, McDonough said, was the deal-maker. Phoenix sent the No. 16 pick, guard Zhaire Smith of Texas Tech, to the 76ers along with Miami's unprotected first-round pick in 2021. But the Suns are tired of stockpiling assets.

"We were thinking this has to be the first time in history that one actual player under contract hasn't gotten traded", Raptors general manager Bobby Webster told reporters back in Toronto. "We weighed the pros and cons of trading it heavily and carefully and we were only going to put it in play if we had a chance to get a special player and that's how we feel about Mikal". And with the 59th pick - next-to-last overall - the Suns selected forward George King of Colorado. His only sleep lately, he said, was a couple of hours on the plane ride from NY on Tuesday.

"I was doing some media stuff, getting some nice pictures and then I was walking to sit down and wait", Bridges said.

Parting ways with that Miami first-rounder could prove costly, especially since the National Basketball Association may nix its one-and-done rule ahead of the 2021 Draft, according to ESPN.com's Zach Lowe. Obviously, you watch the list of this class in the draft and also free agents, and he can be one of the elite point guards in this league and I think he's crafty, he's a great ball-handler.

DeAndre Ayton, at 13/5, is listed as the favorite to win the award.

"It felt like I knew him for years, and it's insane".

For now, Ayton, Booker, Jackson and Bridges give the Suns one of the NBA's more intriguing young cores, especially after factoring in Warren, Bender, Chriss and Okobo. A billboard of those three already has been erected downtown.

"We're very hungry", Ayton said. We can run all day. We can really start a winning legacy.

"And Ayton is the reason for the sudden leap in optimism, even though he won't turn 20 until next month". "Somebody kind of mumbled, 'Just be prepared you might get traded.' And I was like 'what did you say?'" "I was just really excited to get to Atlanta".

McDonough called Ayton "just a phenomenal physical talent".

"Ayton said he wants "to be the best person on and off the court".

Regardless of whatever additional moves the Suns make this offseason, a playoff berth in 2018-19 will be an uphill climb.

Ayton may not average 20 and 10 as rookie because, well, basically no one other than Tim Duncan actually does that. "We're going to continue to be aggressive for the next couple of weeks in free agency".
