A Daria Revival Is Coming to MTV

"These two smart young women take on the world, with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender and race", according to a description provided by MTV. This reinterpretation is part of a larger initiative to launch MTV Studios. There were also a couple of reality TV shows that were announced, but Daria is back! "Aeon Flux" was an odd, experimental show about a futuristic assassin that originally aired in 1991 and ran for three seasons.

The studio previously announced a live-action series of Aeon Flux, to be executive produced by Jeff Davis (Teen Wolf) and Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead). "With MTV Studios, we are for the first time ever opening up this vault beyond our own platforms to reimagine the franchises with new partners". "And so we're able to go and actually retell that story, updated of course, with new characters, new tensions, new real-life issues, but still stay totally pure to the clean idea of what Real World was without having to basterdize it in order to make it work for traditional cable". "Because the younger side of MTV's traditional target demo of persons 12-34, the 12- to 17-year-olds, do most of their viewing online, MTV plans to reach them there", McCarthy told Deadline. In that same vein, The Real World is going to focus on social media, 24-hour news and how it affects people, and is probably going to be really depressing now that I think about it.

And while some reboots have been, well, nothing short of disastrous (*coughs* GILMORE GIRLS *coughs*), there are some shows that deserve to be revisited in 2018 and classic '90s cartoon Daria is definitely one of them! If MTV is serious about capitalizing on its intellectual property with its new MTV Studios shingle, Daria's about as good a pick as any to start with. Let us know your predictions in the comments!
