Nigeria captain Mikel Obi says the Super Eagles are focussed on reaching the second round of the 2018 World Cup despite their poor start to their campaign in Russian Federation.

The President of the Nigerian Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki has met with the Super Eagles players in Russian Federation ahead of their World Cup match against Iceland.

The Eagles thrived on the 4-2-3-1 formation to qualify for Russian Federation 2018 with a game to spare, but they also experimented with another, more attacking option of 3-5-2 in their recent friendlies. Iceland, roared on by thousands of fans from the tiny country, kept pushing and were awarded a penalty in the 80th minute when referee Matt Conger used the Video Assisted Referee system to confirm that striker Alfred Finnbogason had been fouled by Tyronne Ebuehi. But Iceland's playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson blasted his effort high over the bar.

Gernot Rohr's team is looking to redeem itself with a win against Iceland at the Volgograd Arena on Friday in order to stay in competition for a Second Round berth from Group D.

Two brilliant second-half strikes from Leicester forward Ahmed Musa gave Nigeria the points.

Croatia top Group D with six points following their win over Argentina on Friday evening, while Nigeria sit in second with their win over Iceland.

"I'm comfortable with any of the roles, whether in a more offensive or defensive role".
