The 89-year-old, who is the patriarch of the Jackson family, is said to have been battling the illness for quite some time, according to TMZ. Hollywood publication Variety said a source close to the situation had confirmed the report, while DailyMail.com, citing family members and other unspecified sources, said Jackson had stage four pancreatic cancer. The family needs to be by his bedside - that's our only intention in his final days.

The visit came following a tense stand off during which the Jackson family struggled to gain medical information about, and access to, Joe. "For however long he has left, my mother, siblings, and relatives want to be with him, without hindrance", Jermaine Jackson tweeted late on Thursday.

It is believed that his daughters, Robbie and Joh'Vonnie, along with granddaughter Yashi Brown, visited him in Las Vegas, Nevada on Tuesday.

'We were not being told where he was and couldn't get the full picture. My mother was anxious sick.

In a statement to the Mail, Jermaine Jackson said the family has been "hurting" and at one point had no idea what was going on.

Joe was responsible for guiding his children, who formed the Jackson 5, to superstardom. Joe ceased managing Michael in the early 1980s; the singer died of an accidental drug overdose in 2009. The source explains, "The family feels that no one should have prevented him from seeing his family, even if he wasn't able to portray the strength he wanted to portray".

'They are acting in his interests and no one else's.

"Everyone in the family, from Paris to Janet, is planning to see him", the source adds.

'The Jacksons are now in dialogue with the people looking after Joe, and they are being kept informed'. "It's what any family would want, but some people around him think they know better...and they don't".
