He also described Prince Harry's view on Brexit as being "an experiment" that "we have to try".

The royal family takes pride in being scrupulously neutral on political issues.

When asked when he knew they were serious about their relationship, he said: "I can't give you a date no, it was certainly a few months before the announcement of the engagement. Promise me you'll never raise your hand against my daughter, and, of course, I give you my permission'".

She walked about half the aisle by herself, with Charles waiting further down to escort her from the end of the Nave to the altar.

It remains to be seen if Harry and Meghan - or Charles - will speak to Thomas again anytime soon. "But I'm thankful for how it all went".

"I feel bad about it, I apologised for it, it was a mistake". "I apologize for it and that's all I can do". I can't do much about it.

Meghan's parents are divorced and while mother Doria Ragland, 61, has met Harry and attended the wedding, her father has yet to meet the prince.

"Actually, it wasn't [a hard conversation]".

"He's a very comfortable person to talk to", Markle added. I seriously can not get enough of these two - in a sea of b.s. news that we have to deal with on the regular, they are a shining beacon of hope and I love them.

But the scandal had a lasting effect on Thomas' health.

"I don't think the stork has hit the air yet, but I think it will happen sooner or later", said Thomas.

"I've had respect for that woman since I was a child", Thomas said. "I had a heart attack", he said. I had to drive at two in the morning into Rosarito to a hospital...

Prince Harry awaits his bride, Meghan Markle, as she is accompanied by Prince Charles during their wedding ceremony at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle on Saturday, May 19, 2018.

"They were disappointed", Thomas said. "They would take pictures of my hand grabbing the beer, they'd take pictures of me getting in my auto, taking the garbage out, they'd take pictures of me buying a toilet and making a big deal out of it".

He watched the wedding from California, where he was recovering from heart surgery.

Detailing how he'd come across in the press in the past, Thomas said: "They would take pictures of me grabbing a beer, taking the garbage out, buying a toilet and making a big deal out of it".

Mr Markle said: "I was honoured, I can't think of a better replacement than someone like Prince Charles".

Harry had apparently led off their very first conversation by asking him how he was feeling.

"I was thrilled to tears he was doing that, I just wish it had been my hand holding hers not his".
