Prime comes just ahead of a new policy that will prevent Australian customers from shopping on other countries' Amazon sites.

As an introductory offer, Australian users will pay less than a third of the cost compared to United States users.

Free delivery within two business days will cover nearly 90 per cent of the nation and free worldwide shipping is on offer for orders more than $49.

And in response, Amazon has chosen to restrict Australian residents to its Australian website starting July 1st. A Prime subscription costs $4.99 in Australia with an introductory offer that runs until 31 January 2019 before rising to $6.99.

The launch follows Amazon's announcment that it plans to stop Australian users ordering from the U.S. site. Prime Expedited Delivery reaches almost 90% Australians in two business days.

"We hope that Australians will love free two business day delivery on products from Amazon Australia and free worldwide delivery on products from Amazon US, all available to customers on", Amazon Prime global VP Jamil Ghani says. You'll also get access to free standard worldwide delivery on eligible orders over $49.

Prime members can stream or download popular and award-winning Prime Original series such The Grand Tour, Golden Globe victor The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Emmy victor The Man in the High Castle, American Gods, and Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan starring John Krasinski, which will premiere on August 31.

Members of Amazon Prime receive benefits including free fast shipping, streaming of movies, TV shows and music, exclusive shopping deals, unlimited reading and more.

Worldwide Amazon Prime boasts more than 100 million paid members - making it the second largest paid streaming platform behind Netflix (125 million subscribers), Hulu (estimated 18 million subscribers) and HBO (estimated 142 million subscribers).

Almost 90% of Australians will be able to pre-order Prime-eligible products including video games such as Red Dead Redemption II, Avengers Infinity War and Call of Duty Black Ops 4, and have them delivered on release date.
