Google Maps just evicted Uber bookings

Google hasn't made much fanfare about the move, and it's hard to discern its motives.

Since January 2017, you could book an Uber ride right in the Google Maps app. That's in contrast to Lyft, which still shows estimates for different auto types, though you have to tap thew "Open App" button to actually order the ride in the Lyft app.

We haven't seen confirmation of Uber's removal from Google, so we don't know the reasoning behind it or exactly when it happened. This functionality originally allowed users to quickly map out a route, check prices, and complete the process of booking a ride completely within the Maps application, never needing to hand anything off to Uber's app.

Early a year ago Google announced that it was partnering with Uber to offer integration with the popular ride-sharing service directly within Google Maps. This cool integration is now gone!

Google Maps has long offered estimates of journeys from ridesharing services - including Uber.

For a reason yet to be explained, Alphabet's removed the ability to hail Uber rides from Google Maps.

One possible explanation for this is that Uber doesn't want users to be able to book rides without using the Uber app.

Uber Uber has revealed Uber Lite for the Indian market, marking the latest Lite app to hit Android in the past year.

Uber has certainly changed how people get around. That button will take you directly to the Uber app if you have it installed on your mobile device. The company has, however, added a note to its Google Maps support page confirming its decision.
