And the Belgium global has left the door open for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu by inviting Madrid to make an offer.

Chelsea put up a disappointing title defence in the Premier League last season and only managed to finish fifth, meaning they will not be in the UEFA Champions League next year.

Speaking to L'Equipe, as cited by the Daily Mirror, Hazard refused to be drawn into talk about his future but he did hint that a move to Madrid remains a possibility. I have been asked so many times about that. I do not want to stay if we are less good.

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that Chelsea duo Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois will only think about their futures at Stamford Bridge after the World Cup.

Courtois, however, was quick to stress that no one player is going to win the World Cup and played up the new sense of spirit in a team built from what is known as Belgium's Golden Generation.

However, a transfer has failed to materialise despite Hazard's reported desire to play Real Madrid at some point in his career.

'But as I said before, I won everything in London except the Champions League. I don't want to stay for us to be poorer. It is for that before everything that I would really like to know what will happen at the club next year.

"I wait to see whether the [Chelsea] coach will stay or leave", Hazard told L'Equipe.

"But if tomorrow this club does not want me, we will not talk about it anymore".

"If they want to buy me they know what they need to do". Go there for the sake of it... no. I still have a project in Chelsea.

The Belgians are considered a good outside bet to lift the World Cup for the first time and start the tournament on Monday against rank outsiders Panama in Group G.
