"We'll get the team performing and we'll qualify if we have to", John Herdman told CTV's Your Morning Wednesday, just about an hour after the announcement that the joint bid of Canada, Mexico and the United States had beaten Morocco to host the 48-team tournament.

The games will be played in 16 cities. On June 2, 2010, the MLS' Montreal Impact played a friendly against Serie A powerhouse A.C. Milan in a match that saw natural grass installed just for the one-off event.

A successful joint North America bid will see the global sports event return to the US for the first time since 1994.

The joint bid pitched a near shutout in the Americas, winning 38 of 39 votes cast. The 1994 World Cup ― which Brazil won in front of 94,000 fans at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California ― also led to the creation of Major League Soccer, the American professional league that began play in 1996.

The North American bid to host the 2026 Wrorld Cup beat out Morocco on Wednesday, in a landslide 134-65 vote by Federation Internationale de Football Association, soccer's governing body.

What time is the World Cup on and where can I watch it in Hong Kong?

And the man who has coached them through much of their recent success was recently appointed the head of the men's national soccer team.

This is mainly because from when the venue first opened in 1978 and right up to 2009, Commonwealth Stadium - now known as The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium - was a natural-grass location, making it an ideal fit for Canadian national team games and worldwide tournaments. "And my dream is to some day compete in the World Cup, maybe even in my home town of Edmonton".

The U.S. has submitted 17 cities to host matches, but that list will be narrowed down to 10 by 2021. Canada has never hosted a men's World Cup, though it was the site of the 2015 Women's World Cup. These are the cities that we think will be included as hosts for the 2026 World Cup.

Just ten of those games will be played in Mexico and Canada respectively, with the U.S. hosting 60 of the fixtures. An opening ceremony before the match will feature Will Smith singing Live It Up, the official anthem of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. However, Shanks expects soccer's popularity to continue to grow in the USA within the next eight years.

FIFA's hosting selection process was revamped in the wake of recent scandals enveloping the world governing body of soccer.

Fifa's president, Gianni Infantino, looked opportunistically quick to immediately put himself forward for re-election next year, and he was followed by United States president Donald Trump with a self-congratulatory tweet.
