The chance to co-host the 2026 World Cup is an opportunity to put Canada on the world stage, politicians said Wednesday after soccer's worldwide governing body voted in favour of a joint North American bid for the event.

The North American proposal is referred to as United 2026, as it bested a rival Moroccan bid, 134 votes to 65.

"Football today is the only victor", said U.S. Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro.

Animal prognosticators have become a traditional feature of World Cup tournaments, with Achilles following on the heels of Paul the 'psychic octopus, ' who achieved fame during the tournament in 2010 in South Africa when he successfully predicted all eight results of his native Germany's national team. "There would be tens of thousands of worldwide visitors that would be coming into the city, enjoying everything we have to offer", said Needle.

Gill said he was "pleased" by the new bidding process for the 2026 tournament, with the United States, Canada and Mexico winning the right to host the event, beating Morocco.

In the closing days before the vote, Trump ― who won't be president during the 2026 World Cup, even if he wins re-election in 2020 ― promised that visiting players and fans would not face visa problems around the tournament. Mexico will host games for a record third time, after the 1970 and 1986 editions.

The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, with the U.S. hosting 60 of the 80 matches.

A total of 80 games will be played with 60 planned in the United States and 10 each in Canada and Mexico with the final played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, home to National Football League teams New York Giants and New York Jets.

Other cities on the list are Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Edmonton, Guadalajara, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Monterrey, Montreal, Nashville, New York/NewJersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Toronto and Washington, DC.

They are the most compelling reasons why we would be the best hosts.

England, like Morocco, knows the feeling of falling short in the bid to host the World Cup. That remains the only World Cup the Canadian men have ever qualified for.

Canada and the United States did not qualify for the tournament.

There's just the one game on the opening day of the tournament as hosts Russian Federation take on Saudi Arabia. and not one of our pundits is giving the Asian visitors a hope of victory. And there will be a maximum of seven games for the teams reaching the final, the same as the current format. And then we've got an eye on the pathway, the infrastructure, the development system to make sure that the right players arrive at the right time in 2026.
