His hole out eagle from 171 yards on the 72nd hole was a big reminder that while the 20-somethings on the PGA TOUR have been getting plenty of worthy praise, Johnson is still the top dog in town.

Johnson said (via Sky Sports).

"What a cool way to end the day to hole that shot on 18", Johnson said.

Name SearchWatch Service' Darrell Smith, the man in charge of making sure the seersucker jacket gets to the victor, was feeling pretty good about things.

"I knew coming in this week that I was swinging really well and had a lot of confidence in my game".

Sunday's victory was the 18th PGA Tour win of Johnson's career, and his first since the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii in January. "It was nice to finish like that and get it back".

"It feels like it's been a long time (since my last win), even though it's been only six months".

"Luckily I did watch him hit that last shot and that was pretty special, so that was fun to see", Putnam said of Johnson's eagle. It is on the greens where Johnson can sometimes look out of his element, but this week he made more than enough to dominate.

Although Putnam went bogey free for the final 13 holes, he was unable to match Johnson's brilliance and finished on 13 under par. Johnson then hit his approach to 3 feet for his second birdie to go 16 under. I'm really looking forward to it. He just didn't have the title to go with it for a few weeks. "I played really well all week". He even had a hole-in-one on the eighth hole Saturday in the third round. He then put the finishing touches on his ninth win over the past two seasons with birdies on the 13th and 16th.

Putnam, meanwhile, who has yet to win on the PGA Tour, said he would take positives from the way he managed to steady his round after dropping three shots in his opening five holes.

"I was a little flat starting the day - I couldn't really get anything going", Johnson explained.

The week before the U.S. Open at Oakmont, Johnson shot a Sunday 63 in Memphis to finish inside the top five. Brandt Snedeker (70) and Retief Goosen (66) tied four others at 7 under. Mickelson has six runner up finishes at the U.S. Open. Memphis has always been a great lead-in to the U.S. Open and now will take its new place as a World Golf Championship in a new slot for next season. "For me if helps me identify the things I need to work on - and this week that was my short game".

USA players will continue to gain points in 2018 at every non-opposite PGA Tour event, WGC and major through the 100th PGA Championship at Bellerive, concluding on August 12, 2018. If that statistic bothered Johnson, it didn't show in his relaxed demeanor on Sunday. But he heard the crowd cheer and "I knew it was on a good line". The course also is known for its clubhouse, designed by Stanford White, which is a majestic presence hovering over the hard 18th hole and its green.
