John Oliver compares Trump to OJ Simpson trial for discrediting Mueller investigation

The "Last Week Tonight" host saved some of his sharpest barbs for Sean Hannity, at one point congratulating him for creating "the shittiest conspiracy theory ever".

Oliver called Trump "a sociopathic, misogynist millionaire, evolved from celeb to undeserving folk hero, who suddenly has evidence piling up he may have done something awful, and puts the whole system on trial".

On Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, Oliver argued that Donald Trump has gone "full O.J." against the Mueller investigation. But while the Trump team's tactics are "transparent, illogical, and dump", they're also "depressingly effective", he sighed, making a specific comparison: "Trump is going full O.J., and it's working".

Oliver pointed to Trump, Rudy Giuliani, and Fox News' use of "whataboutisms" and counter-narratives that claim this investigation is part of a massive conspiracy by the FBI, Democrats, and even Republicans to stop Trump.

Mueller's probing has led to several indictments and guilty pleas, which Oliver said proves: "If this is a witch hunt, then witches exist".

He also brought up Hannity's "series of Carrie-from-Homeland-is-off-her-meds conspiracy boards" on which he "paints a picture where the investigation is itself one big scandal". Trump Tower meeting, Oliver said, "You seem to be implying Hillary Clinton sent someone into Trump Tower to offer dirt on herself".

In calling Trump "a sociopathic, misogynist millionaire, evolved from celeb to undeserving folk hero, who suddenly has evidence piling up he may have done something awful, and puts the whole system on trial", Oliver compared Trump's approach toward the investigation to the defence strategy of OJ Simpson in his 1995 murder trial.
